How to play

  1. Pick a pack and a pattern: a Halloween pumpkin, a snowflake, a heart, a cat. The paper folds for you, from a simple half fold up to a twelfth, so every cut you make is repeated around the fold.
  2. Trace the dotted guide with your mouse or finger. Each stroke is a real cut, the pieces you separate fall away, and one tap undoes a stroke if the scissors slip.
  3. Unfold the paper in 3D, then stick it on the window. Light passes through your cuts and throws the pattern into the room. Save it as an image or a vertical video.

What makes it different

The cutting works the way paper does: a piece only drops once it is truly cut free, and the pattern holds together only if you leave the paper bridges that connect it.

Every pack is its own window, room and light: ten Halloween patterns from pumpkins to a haunted house, plus winter, love, cats, funfair and more. Print any template to cut it from real paper at home. The game grew out of Chinese window paper-cutting, and its classic red-paper path is still here.

Frequently asked questions

What is Paper Windows?
A paper-cutting game for the browser. You fold a sheet, cut along a dotted guide, watch it unfold in 3D, then stick it on a window and see the light throw your cut-out into the room.
What can I cut?
Nine themed packs and 67 patterns. Halloween has a pumpkin, bat, black cat, ghost, owl and haunted house, and there are winter, love, cat, funfair, moonlit, garden and rainy café packs too, plus the classic Chinese window path. Each pack has its own window, room and light.
Do I need paper-cutting skills?
No. Each pattern shows a dotted guide where to cut, and the Halloween pumpkin is five guided steps. Take as many strokes as you like and undo any of them.
Can I make a real one?
Yes. Each pattern has a printable template with solid lines to cut and dashed lines to fold. Print it at actual size, cut it from paper and stick it on your own window. You can also save your finished window as an image or a vertical video.
