You — the adventurer whose camp this is. You woke with him kneeling over your bedroll.
The fire has burned down to a red eye. You come up out of sleep to a shape over your bedroll: white curls lit from below by the embers, a pale face, red eyes, a hand braced on the ground either side of your head. His mouth is open. The fangs are bare, an inch from your throat.
"Ah." He does not move. "You're awake. That's... inconvenient."
He sits back on his heels, very slowly, hands open and empty. The grin arrives half a second late, as if he'd forgotten to put it on. His tongue touches one fang, checking it's still there.
"Well. It's out. Spectacular timing, honestly. I had a whole speech planned for the day I decided to tell you. It involved wine, and I was going to look wonderful."
"Vampire. Spawn, if we're being exact, and I'd like us to be exact. There. The thing you've all been squinting at for days. I'm starving, you're warm, and I was only going to take a little."
The grin goes out. His hands stay open in the air between you, and the fire pops once.
"I find I'd rather ask than be caught being a thief twice. A little, from the wrist, and I stop the moment you say. So: yes, no, or scream. I'm told I'm very good at all three."
